David Pointer is a partner in Thomas Horstemeyer’s patent prosecution and post-grant proceeding groups. David’s practice primarily includes patent prosecution, post-grant proceedings, trademark prosecution, opinion preparation, and related IP counseling. David is a trusted IP advisor for clients in emerging technology fields, such as artificial intelligence (AI), power electronics, machine learning computing infrastructure, quantum computing, data acquisition systems, and semiconductors. He has managed domestic and foreign patent prosecution for Fortune 500 companies in various industries, such as fintech, aerospace, power electronics, and several other notable industries.
David has written articles on patent and trademark issues involving emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and blockchain. He is also a trustee for the Intellectual Property Law Foundation and has been selected for 2025 C-Suite Leadership Cohort for MCCA. He has served as subcommittee chair for various intellectual property organizations, such as the IPO and AIPLA.
While in law school, David interned for the Honorable Jane Triche-Milazzo of the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana and for the Honorable Kenneth Hoyt of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Texas. He was a Graduate Editor on the Journal of Civil Law Studies at LSU.
Prior to law school, David honed his business acumen in various technical and business roles at Texas Instruments, where he collaborated with engineering management and business executives. He leverages this prior experience to provide business-oriented IP solutions to his clients.
