Baylee Howard is an associate in Thomas Horstemeyer’s patent prosecution group. Baylee drafts and prosecutes patent applications to protect her client’s innovations. Her multidisciplinary training as a biomedical engineer allows her to work with a wide range of technologies, including biological, mechanical, chemical, software, and electrical technologies.
Baylee received her undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Mississippi, graduating magna cum laude. As a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, she worked as an undergraduate research assistant on a thesis project in the Molecular Biophysics and Engineering Lab, where she conducted research on the effects of E-hook peptides on kinesin-1.
While at Ole Miss, Baylee was inducted into the engineering honor society Tau Beta Phi, as well as the university’s “Who’s Who” for achievement in scholarship, service, and leadership.
Baylee earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law, graduating magna cum laude. During law school, she served as an Executive Articles Editor for the Mississippi Law Journal and was an active member of the Intellectual Property Law Society. During this time, Baylee also worked as an extern for the University of Mississippi Office of Technology Commercialization, where she worked closely with university researchers to guide them through the patent process, including conducting interviews with inventors, performing patentability searches, and reviewing patent applications.
During law school, Baylee spent a summer interning for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) where she acquired a knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and methods used by patent examiners.
Baylee worked as a Summer Associate for Thomas Horstemeyer in 2023 and returned after graduation from law school in 2024.
