Morgan Perkins, Ph.D. is a patent agent at Thomas Horstemeyer. She serves technology transfer offices of research universities throughout the southeast region of the U.S. and beyond. She also works as outside patent counsel for a variety of companies, from startups to Fortune 500s. Her work encompasses a variety of technology sectors, including chemical, material science, pharmaceutical, software, and artificial intelligence innovations.

Morgan graduated from Lyon College with a double major in chemistry and mathematics. She received her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Mississippi (UM), where she was an active member of a lab specializing in computational chemistry research. Morgan’s graduate work utilized physics, mathematics, and high-performance computing to gain insight into important chemical problems, making her well-versed in the intricacies of both the chemical and computational sciences. She frequently collaborated with experimental groups in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UM, using quantum chemical tools to aid research in a variety of areas, such as organic electronics.

During this time, Morgan also worked in UM’s Office of Technology Commercialization. She joined the Technology Commercialization team in guiding university researchers through the beginning steps of the patent process, including interviewing inventors and performing patentability searches.
