Paul Joseph “PJ” Spina is an associate in Thomas Horstemeyer’s litigation practice group, where he concentrates on all facets of intellectual property litigation including patent, trademark, copyright, and other complex intellectual property disputes.  J brings a strategic and detail-oriented approach to every matter, guiding cases through all phases—from early case assessment and strategy development to discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation—while adeptly managing intricate technical and procedural challenges.

PJ’s legal experience spans across all levels of the state and federal judicial system. Prior to joining Thomas | Horstemeyer, PJ worked on appellate litigation matters involving the utilization of newly developed medical technologies, vaccines, and countermeasures implemented to combat the global Covid-19 health pandemic. Such experience involved navigating cases across jurisdictions nationwide and drafting pleadings involving complex, novel issues of first impression before various courts. Additionally, PJ also served as a summer clerk for the Honorable Justice Shawn Ellen LaGrua of the Supreme Court of Georgia, gaining valuable insight into appellate deliberations at the highest state judicial level.

PJ received his undergraduate degree in applied mathematics with a concentration in biomedical sciences from Auburn University and his J.D. from Georgia State College of Law. During his time at Georgia State, he served as the Treasurer and Senator for the Georgia State Student Bar Association, and the Digital Communications Editor for the Georgia State University Law Review.
