John L. Lyon is a partner at Thomas|Horstemeyer, where he develops intellectual property solutions for his clients. John has assisted several Fortune 500 companies in developing and implementing their intellectual property strategies to achieve their objectives both in the US and internationally.

John brings a background of diverse experiences to the table when representing his clients. Prior to joining Thomas|Horstemeyer, John represented clients in federal class action lawsuits and performed post-judgement collections and enforcement. Before beginning his legal career, John worked as a software developer and in the entertainment industry. While at Thomas|Horstemeyer, John has helped his clients procure numerous patents in North America, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. He has also developed domestic and international filing strategies to match their needs and protected and enforced their intellectual property rights in various jurisdictions. As a result, John frequently offers his clients creative strategies and solutions because he understands both the bigger picture surrounding their intellectual property portfolio and the underlying technologies protected by individual patents.

John understands complex technologies. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with honors. As a result, John is able to comfortably communicate with inventors at a detailed level and appreciate the finer points of novelty in an invention. Moreover, John can translate these important technical details to a non-technical audience in a candid manner.

John values giving back to the legal community. He regularly participates in continuing legal education programs on topics such as open source software licensing, standard essential patents, and career development. He also helps train and mentor new attorneys, both within Thomas|Horstemeyer and through professional organizations such as the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (AIPLA).
