Scott Horstemeyer is one of the founding partners and a former managing partner of the law firm. He has been practicing intellectual property law for over thirty years. Scott has experience in connection with all aspects of intellectual property. Scott presently focuses on patent and trademark work, including procurement (prosecution), litigation strategy and support, portfolio management, due diligence studies, infringement investigations, validity investigations, and contract matters, including licensing.

Scott is one of the founding partners and a former managing partner of the law firm. He has been practicing intellectual property law for over thirty years, first in Washington, D.C., and then in Atlanta.

Scott has been instrumental over the years in developing the firm’s high technology law practice in the electrical and software arts. The firm has gained prominence in these fields, both nationally and internationally. In fact, the firm has an extensive list of high tech clients.

In the past, Scott worked in the litigation department of the firm and served on litigation teams before the federal courts. Eventually, the firm’s practice in the patent procurement area, particularly, in the electrical, computer, data communications, and software arts, became larger and more demanding, and consequently, he began to limit his practice to procurement and client counseling.

Scott presently focuses on patent and trademark work, typically procurement (prosecution), litigation strategy and support, portfolio management, due diligence studies, infringement investigations, validity investigations, and contract matters, including licensing.  In his career, Scott has personally written and prosecuted many hundreds of U.S. patents, and he has been involved in the examination of thousands of patent applications. He has also prepared, filed, and prosecuted hundreds of trademark applications.

He has experience worldwide in prosecuting patents and trademarks and has managed global patent and trademark portfolios of international companies. He has architected and implemented internal company procedures for processing and managing patent and trademark activities. He has actively participated on patent review boards for international companies. He has rendered hundreds of legal opinions for clients, many of which have been involved in litigation. He has also served as a patent expert in lawsuits.
